The 5 Best Designed Golf Holes in South Louisiana
I need to make an admission here: I’d have been content to list all short par-4’s as they are my personal favorite holes in golf. However, I realize that to be credible, this list needed to include at least one solid two-shotter.
From a strategic standpoint, there is no hole around here that offers more options on every stroke. There is a water hazard on the hole, but the golfer is given every opportunity to play away from it. The player who takes on the challenge successfully is rewarded with a significantly shorter shot into the green, but it’s likely to be partially blind.
The player who takes the safer line to the left side of the divided fairway will have a much longer second shot, but the approach angle is much better, with tons of room to miss. Still yet, the truly bold player has a third option with significant risk, but maximum reward. For the golfer who takes on the water up the right, and is daring enough to aim close to the series of bunkers that divide the fairway, there is a “speed slot” that will sling a drive forward if it hits the mark.
Miss short or left here though, and chances for a par are all but gone. Even though this hole is exceedingly long for a Par-4, the green is relatively flat with no bunkers guarding it. Any approach that ends up near the green leaves a simple pitch, not much more difficult than a lag putt. It wouldn’t surprise me if this entry is controversial, but I stand by it… Is there anything more rewarding than walking off this hole with a par or even the rare birdie?
