HOLE #1 AUDUBON PARK GOLF COURSE, NEW ORLEANS
The 5 Best Designed Golf Holes in South Louisiana
Number 5
The very definition of a strategic hole, and perhaps the finest example of a “driveable” par four that I have played. The setting of the hole is absolutely sublime. Surrounded by ancient oak trees and the sights and sounds of uptown New Orleans, the first hole at Audubon perfectly sets the tone for the course’s unique, yet exceedingly fun layout.
The manner in which the practice green melts into the first tee is perhaps the amateur’s best simulation of playing before a gallery. At just over 300 yards from the Gold tees, there is a tee box that makes this hole reachable for almost every player. Take on this shot at your own risk; however, as it requires challenging the water left and two fairway pot bunkers.
The green is a shallow target on a straight line from the tee, and water looms over the back for the shot that is a little too well struck. There are many other options for playing this hole for those unwilling to take on the green with their first shot of the day… A mid iron off the tee still yields a short iron approach, and there’s plenty of room to the right to hit driver and leave a flip wedge with a perfect angle into the green.
